Tools Card Emotional Intelligence: Exploring Light

More than just light

This month’s reflection is inspired by light, and we explore it through tools, card, and emotional intelligence practices. Light is a short, simple, yet powerful word that carries both physical and emotional meaning.

Thoughts that immediately came to mind were that

Light – can show us the way.
Light – can give warmth and coziness to the room we are in.
Light – can shine out of the window to bring warmth and a smile to the by-passers.

Light – can guide you and/or others home.

We have the natural light that comes from the sun and the moon and the light that comes from external sources like lamps and fire.

But this is all the physical light, the light that shines into spaces. But light, that it’s as well a feeling.

And by that, I do not mean the kilos we might want to get rid of. No, I mean the light(ness) we want to feel inside of us – in body, mind and soul.

That light feeling from within that comes once we let go of the heaviness that holds us down makes us move…lighter, freer. It’s the feeling that makes us stand tall and makes us see more clearly.

The light from within is what others see and feel radiating from us when we meet. It’s the light that warms our souls and projects to those around us.

While those were my initial thoughts about light, that light is the illumination that can guide us and give us warmth; I realized there is another side to it, too.

Light can also be very bright and put us into the spotlight – to either show what we can do or leave us feeling caught out, like a deer in headlights. And it can leave gloomy, scary shadows that might leave us scared and worried.

And at times, we might decide to dim our own light, not to hide but to go more inwards, to quiet the noise around us.

But no matter the type of light and whether you look at the word light from a physically illuminating perspective or a feeling,

light is the brightness that lets you see things” – one way or the other. (Collins Dictionary)

So, where do you see yourself when it comes to light? Shall we “play” and find out?
What better way than to approach “light” with the beautiful Flow tool, but any other Points of You® set works too!

Before you start, I invite you to light a candle, grab a cup of tea or coffee and close your eyes while you listen to this song

Now that the tune is set, choose a topic in your life you want to put the spotlight on today and choose three cards – preferably face down but face up works too.

Observe each card separately
What do you see?
What emotions and feelings do the cards bring up?
How does it connect to your point of view regarding your light?

And in the next step ask yourself with each card:
🔆Where is it still dark for me?
🔆How can I shine more light?
🔆What will protect me from being blinded?

When you put the cards together, do you see a storyline when it comes to light on your life?
What area did you discover that you want to shine more light into?
Or did it perhaps show you where you dimmed your light, and it’s time to let it shine?

“As we work to create light for others, we naturally light our own way.” – Mary Anne Radmacher
